How to beat ‘Blue Monday’
Today is Monday, but not just any Monday. Today is ‘Blue Monday’, the most depressing day of the year. Why is that?
It is based on a formula thought up in 2005 by Cliff Arnall, a psychologist at Cardiff University. This formula calculates the most depressing day of the year as the third Monday in January, due to variables such as the weather, the debts built up over Christmas, the January monthly salary, the failed attempts to give up a bad habit, low motivational levels and a feeling that there is a need to take action to change your life. Arnall himself argued that the formula had no scientific foundation, but today the use of the term ‘Blue Monday’ is widespread.
While this theory may or may not be right, between the rain, the uphill struggle of January, the failure to stick to new year’s resolutions and the simple fact that it is a Monday, it will no doubt be a difficult day for many. That is why we have decided to beat Blue Monday, and we will do this by preparing a diet that will help to keep up our spirits.
