Diabetes. how to prevent it?
Source: Diabetes Foundation
Diabetes is a chronic disease that occurs when there is too much sugar in the blood. Its origin is in the pancreas, which must produce enough insulin to allow glucose to enter the body and be transported to the cells, where it is transformed into energy. When insufficient insulin is secreted, the blood glucose level increases and this can end up causing health problems.
According to the Spanish Diabetes Society (SED), there are more than 6 million diabetics in Spain, although more than half are undiagnosed. This disease especially affects the heart, kidneys and blood vessels. That’s why it is important to control it. Although it has no cure, with the right treatment and some lifestyle changes it is possible to lead a healthy life. In addition, 50% of cases of diabetes can be prevented (SED).
