Phinca Hapa 2017 – BOJ Pairing by Jon William
This week we will pair with a very special white Rioja: Phinca Hapa 2017 vintage.
This wine belongs to Bodegas Bhilar, which is a small boutique winery located in Elvillar, Rioja Alavesa, led by the husband and wife team David Sampedro and Melanie Hickman.
Their goal is to make wines with soul, respecting the land and only working with native grapes. It is limited to a little over 2,000 bottles and comes from an old vineyard with Viura, Malvasía and White Grenache white grapes. White Phinca Hapa spends a year in French oak barrels.
Appearance: Soft golden colour. Nose: Notes of quince, peach, beeswax and popcorn. Mouth: Slightly tannin on the palate, with the texture of a red wine.
We serve it between 9 and 12ºC, and can drink it up to 6 years after its harvest.
To be paired with seafood, appetisers and snacks, white fish and marinated meat. It also pairs really well with the special recipe that Aingeru Etxebarria is going to prepare for us and that you can see here.
